Get Your Captains License Using GI Bill Education Benefits

ATTN. VETERANS: If you need a merchant mariners credential, a.k.a "Captains License," we can help. Explorer's Guide Maritime Academy is offering Military Veterans (eligible for GI education benefits) an opportunity to get your USCG Captains license with training at three Wisconsin locations - Appleton, Sturgeon Bay and Milwaukee, WI. These classes have been approved for Montgomery GI Bill and Post 911 benefits for classroom courses.

Enrollment for a classroom course in Appleton, Sturgeon Bay or Milwaukee is simple:

First Step is to apply for benefits using https://vabenefits.vba.va.gov/vonapp/  They will issue a certificate of eligibility. PLEASE NOTE: This process may take 3 to 4 weeks, so plan ahead. We need this document to certify your enrollment for payment.

Second, call Brenda at Explorer's Guide Maritime Academy (920-733-5500) to enroll in the USCG Captains License class. Tell Brenda you are using your VA education benefits. A $100 deposit is required to hold your classroom seat until the benefits are approved. Please send Brenda a copy of your eligibility document. She will certify you as being enrolled.

Third, attend the class at either our Appleton, Milwaukee, or Sturgeon Bay classrooms and earn your USCG License.

Approved by the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, the Wisconsin state approving agency for Veterans benefits.

*At this time, online classes are not approved for GI Bill funding. We are working on alternatives so you can use your benefits to get a merchant maritime education.
